Behind the name Onahi (pronounced on-a-high) Staffords, is Melissa and Anthony. We are both passionate about the breed and are dedicated to ensuring our dogs live happy and healthy lives. We consider our dogs as part of the family and are raised in a loving environment, inside our home.
We are members of the Canine Association of Western Australia and Registered Breeders. Our breeding program is carefully considered and researched as we aim to breed healthy Staffords in line with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Standard. Our dogs are health tested and DNA profiled.
We are both committee members of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Western Australia with Anthony being the President. We are both a founding committee members of West Coast Dog Sports which hosts Lure Coursing events in Western Australia.
Melissa has owned Staffords for over 30 years and wanted to learn more about the breed by showing our dogs in 2011. In 2012, we were fortunate enough for our girl Ryder to be awarded Runner Up Best In Speciality Show at only 12 months of age, where she competed against Australia's top winning Staffords. A huge thank you to judge Mr Ken Meneer from the UK, for thinking so highly of her.
In 2015, Ryder became Onahi's foundation bitch producing our first Australian Champion, Onahi Bliss Bomb. In 2016, Ryder went on to produce our BEST IN SHOW & RU BEST IN SPECIALITY SHOW WINNER, Australian Champion Onahi Get Ya Kit Off (under well respected, overseas, BREED specialist's). In 2018 Kitt was also the first ever Staffordshire Bull Terrier bitch in Western Australia to be awarded a CACIB challenge. From Ryder's second litter we were also able to produced 2 champions from one litter. In the short amount of time we had been exhibiting and from our foundation bitch, this was a dream come true and something many breeders have not been able achieve in all the years they have been showing and the number of litters they have produced. We strive for quality over quantity and show our dogs with NO favour making every achievement earn't with honesty. We proudly do our own thing focusing on the future of our beloved breed.
We do not exhibit our dogs every weekend like some, they are MUCH more than just show dogs. Our dogs live their lives to the full and are often spending their weekends with us down at our local beach, swimming in the pool, away on family holidays and at events which they can participate in such as lure coursing, obedience, agility, Dockdogs and K9 Wall Climb. You could say our dogs are slightly spoilt but our dogs are loved like family and as a result you couldn’t ask for better companions.
